Why did you choose to go abroad?
After gaining several years of professional experience, I felt ready to take a next step forward, and I believed that the US could offer me the right environment to do that. I wanted to experience a market with such strong international exposure and learn how business is done in a different culture. I believe this experience will broaden my perspective, add new skills and knowledge to my professional background, and help me grow further in my career.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
One of the biggest differences I have noticed is how direct and open communication can be in the US. People seem very comfortable starting conversations, asking questions, sharing their ideas, and simply approaching someone they do not know at all.
What has impressed me the most so far is the way everything is organized and keeps moving, especially in a city as large and busy as New York. There are so many people and so much happening every day, but things still seem to function efficiently. For example, stores are well stocked, services are constantly running, and everything seems to have its place.
Could you take us for a day in your life? What is your routine?
A typical day starts with a cup of coffee on my way to my training placement. I usually spend my day learning, working on different tasks, and gaining new experience as part of the program.
After that, I take some time to explore NYC, attend different events and activities around the city, and meet new people. I enjoy discovering new places, trying different things, and making the most of my time here. I also love exploring NYC’s food scene, and so far, I liked everything I have tried!
How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
This experience has helped me become more flexible and adaptable. Being in a new country, surrounded by people I did not know, meant that I had to learn how to adjust to new situations, communicate with different people, and find my own way without always having the people I am used to around me.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
I would recommend doing a program abroad because it helps you break down some of the assumptions and stereotypes you may have about another country or culture. You can read about a place or have certain ideas about it, but actually being there gives you a completely different perspective. So, go for it and enjoy it!
