Meet Craig in Florida!

Meet Craig in Florida!

"...if you have the opportunity to go somewhere and learn new skills, go!"

Craig is doing an 18-month traineeship in Florida, we asked him some questions about his experiences. Read the full interview here:

Why did you choose to go abroad?
To improve knowledge and be on the forefront of emerging marketing services is the reason why I think this traineeship will be beneficial to me, and my network back in South Africa.

How did you find your traineeship?
I was searching online for Marketing Jobs on Facebook while on Holiday here in America and an Ad for my company came up. I had seen that they were interviewing for a position and drove to their office and dropped off my resume.

How do you feel about your traineeship so far?
So far, the traineeship has been great. There has been a lot to learn while working for the agency that I am at.

How does the American culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you the most?
The culture is not that much different from South Africa, plus there are a couple South Africans in the area that I live in.

Could you take us through a day? What is your routine?
Generally, my day involves getting up, and getting to the office. Work starts at 9, and in the morning at the office, and in the morning going through the monthly planner to see what jobs need to be booked into the art department. During the rest of the day, I am mainly shadowing the Digital Director and assisting her with tasks.

What is your housing situation?
I currently live with my girlfriend.

Have you made any trips so far?
I made a trip down to Atlanta for the long weekend.

What are your future plans?
My future plans are to take the experience and learnings that I have gathered from my traineeship and take them back to South Africa to start my own marketing company.

How has this experience abroad helped you grow both professionally and personally?
Personally, it has helped me grow by exposing me to people and a way of working that I would not have been exposed to back in South Africa. From a professional stand point, it has helped to show me how to conduct myself in an organization filled with people that are not familiar with you, or where you come from.

Why would you recommend others to do their traineeship abroad?
Yes, if you have the opportunity to go somewhere and learn new skills, go!

If you could express your traineeship experience in three words, what would these be?
Only getting better.
